Niederlassungserlaubnis

I finally got it! Official permanent residence status in Germany.

Today Sabine and I trekked over to the Ausländerbehörde with a still sick Luisa. I was crazy nervous for this meeting. I had heard that there was going to be a test, in German naturally, about “how you are integrating into German life and culture”. Now to me, this meant brushing up on my limited German, learning about German politics, trying to memorize all of the 16 states, and so on. Turns out, I just needed to be able to fill out the right forms and have a short conversation with the official. So, after all was said and done, I “passed” and got my Niederlassungserlaubnis. I think just being able to spell and pronounce that is a good test of entry!

Thank you Germany.
